Paul, who is undoubtedly weary, looks out at Corinth, by himself at this point, and see's the overwhelming need for Christ in this massive sin swept city becomes distressed. Letters to Thessolonians and 1 Corinthians tells us of his mindset being in Corinth. But God is a God who "comforts those who are cast down" -2Cor7:6. God sends encouragement to Paul by means of friends, fruit for his labor, His own presence and visible signs of perseverance in opposition.
